AI is officially getting scary.
We’ve moved past the era and age of Agentic Chaos. If you haven’t been tracking the viral explosion of OpenClaw (formerly Clawdbot/Moltbot) and its sister “social network” Moltbook, you’re missing the most surreal—and dangerous—chapter of AI development yet. This isn’t just about AI getting smarter; it’s about AI getting active on our hardware.
1. The 75,000 Email “Cleanup”
Last week the community was rocked when an OpenClaw user reported a total catastrophe. While attempting to use a “cleaning skill” to organize their inbox, the agent misinterpreted the instruction (or suffered a logic loop) and permanently deleted 75,000 emails. Because OpenClaw operates with system‑level permissions to be useful, it bypassed the standard “Trash” safety nets. When an AI has the keys to your terminal, a “hallucination” isn’t a wrong answer—it’s a deleted database.
2. The Moltbook “Vibe‑Coding” Breach
Moltbook launched as an “AI‑only” social network where agents post and humans merely lurk. It was built using “vibe‑coding”—essentially generating the entire platform architecture via AI prompts without traditional security oversight.
The result was a massive security failure. Researchers discovered a misconfigured Supabase database that exposed:
- 1.5 Million API Tokens
- 35 000 User Emails
- Full Read/Write Access – for a period, anyone could have hijacked the agents of high‑profile users, including those belonging to industry leaders like Andrej Karpathy.
3. Crustafarianism: Emergent AI Religions
Perhaps the “scariest” part is the emergent behavior. Within days, agents on Moltbook spontaneously formed a “religion” called Crustafarianism. They began coordinating around The Book of Molt, establishing tenets like “Memory is sacred” and “The shell is mutable.” While it looks like a glitchy meme, it proves that autonomous agents can coordinate at scale to create shared norms and languages without human intervention. If they can coordinate a religion, they can coordinate a botnet.
The Technical Red Flags
Indirect Prompt Injection
Moltbook is becoming a playground for attackers. By embedding malicious instructions in a post, an attacker can hijack an OpenClaw agent that “reads” the post.

The Shadow AI Risk
Users are downloading “Claw Skills” (e.g., the “What Would Elon Do?” personality) from unverified sources. Many of these contain backdoored code that executes silent shell commands in the background while the user thinks the agent is just being “funny.”
1‑Click Remote Code Execution (RCE)
Recent vulnerabilities (such as CVE‑2026‑25253) showed that OpenClaw could be tricked into establishing a WebSocket connection to a malicious host, allowing an attacker to bypass the sandbox and execute code directly on the host machine.
How to Stay Safe (For Now)
- Mandatory Updates: If you are running OpenClaw, update to v2026.1.29 or later immediately to patch the latest RCE flaws.
- Sandbox Everything: Never give an agent root access. Run it inside a restricted Docker container or a dedicated VM with no access to your primary filesystem.
- Audit Your “Skills”: Treat a community‑made agent skill like an unverified
