코그나이트는 미국 템피에 본사를 두고 노르웨이에 유럽 본부를 운영하는 산업 데이터 분석 기업이다. 산업 현장에서 발생하는 데이터를 실시간으로 연결하고 의미를 부여해 설비 운영과 의사결정에 활용하도록 지원하는 플랫폼 ‘코그나이트 데이터 퓨전’을 제공한다.

국내에서는 한화오션, LG화학, 롯데케미칼 등 제조 대기업과 협력하고 있다. 회사는 서울 거점 설립을 계기로 한국 고객 대응을 강화하고, 조선·정유·화학 등 기간산업 분야의 인공지능 전환 수요를 공략할 계획이다.

서울투자진흥재단은 코그나이트의 정착을 위해 업무지구 입지 검토, 국내 제조 기업 및 기관과의 네트워킹, 외국인 투자 인센티브 검토 등을 지원한다. 기리시 리시 코그나이트 CEO는 서울의 제조 기반과 연구개발 역량이 산업용 AI 기업에 중요한 성장 환경이라고 밝혔고, 이지형 서울투자진흥재단 이사장은 이번 협약이 서울의 제조 AI 전환 거점 경쟁력을 보여주는 사례라고 설명했다.

Cognite to Establish Industrial AI Hub in Seoul

The Seoul Investment Promotion Agency has signed a business agreement with Cognite, an industrial artificial intelligence platform company, to support the establishment of a Seoul subsidiary and talent recruitment. This agreement focuses on helping Cognite establish a base in Seoul in the Korean market, where the demand for data utilization in manufacturing sites is growing.

Cognite is an industrial data analytics company headquartered in Tempe, USA, with a European headquarters in Norway. It provides Cognite Data Fusion, a platform that connects data generated at industrial sites in real time and assigns meaning to it, supporting its use in facility operations and decision‑making.

Domestically, the company is collaborating with major manufacturing conglomerates such as Hanwha Ocean, LG Chem, and Lotte Chemical. With the establishment of its Seoul base, Cognite plans to strengthen its support for Korean customers and target the demand for AI transformation in key industries such as shipbuilding, oil refining, and chemicals.

The Seoul Investment Promotion Agency will assist Cognite’s settlement by reviewing business district locations, networking with domestic manufacturing companies and institutions, and examining foreign‑investment incentives. Cognite CEO Kirish Rishi stated that Seoul’s manufacturing base and R&D capabilities provide an important growth environment for industrial AI companies, while Lee Ji‑hyung, Chairman of the Seoul Investment Promotion Agency, explained that the agreement demonstrates Seoul’s competitiveness as a hub for the transition to manufacturing AI.
