Background
Amazon MGM Studios has released the final trailer for its forthcoming space odyssey Project Hail Mary, based on Andy Weir’s bestselling 2021 novel. The studio acquired the rights before the book’s publication and enlisted Drew Goddard—who also adapted The Martian—to write the screenplay. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, The LEGO Movie) are directing, with Ryan Gosling starring as the lead.
Premise
Science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) awakens aboard a spaceship far from Earth with no memory of who he is or how he arrived. As his recollection returns, he discovers his mission: solve the mystery of a substance causing the sun to die out. Using his scientific expertise and unconventional ideas, he must prevent Earth’s extinction—though an unexpected friendship may mean he doesn’t have to do it alone.
