Plot Speculation

Yoko Taro Background
Yoko Taro is best known for the NieR franchise, which features a deep, multi‑century lore that occasionally explores parallel universes. NieR itself is a spin‑off of the PlayStation 2 game Drakengard; one of Drakengard’s endings transports a final boss from a fantasy realm to modern Tokyo, whose defeat releases a virus that ultimately creates the post‑apocalyptic world of NieR. This narrative style suggests that Taro could take Evangelion in unexpected directions.
Taro has previously co‑written the NieR: Automata anime spin‑off and is recognizable for wearing a large, unsettling moon mask.
