After initially testing its AI‑powered “Prompted Playlist” feature in New Zealand and recently launching it in the U.S. and Canada (source), Spotify announced on Monday that it’s rolling out the tool to Premium subscribers in the U.K., Ireland, Australia, and Sweden (announcement).
What is Prompted Playlist?
The Prompted Playlist feature lets users create custom playlists by simply describing what they want to hear in their own words. Rather than searching for individual songs or artists, users can specify a vibe, scenario, or inspiration, and Spotify’s AI assembles a playlist that matches the description.
How to Use It
- Tap Create.
- Select Prompted Playlist.
- Enter any prompt in English.
Prompts can reference:
- Moods, aesthetics, or memories
- Musical eras, genres, or specific instruments
- Activities (e.g., “workout”, “study”)
- Lyrics, TV shows, movies, or personal milestones
- Preference for new releases vs. tracks from the user’s library
After submitting a prompt, Spotify’s AI generates a customized playlist, drawing on the user’s listening history, current music trends, and cultural context. Each track includes a short explanation of why it was chosen.
Refining and Scheduling
- Adjust the prompt or start over to refine the results.
- Playlists can be set to refresh automatically on a daily or weekly basis for users whose tastes evolve quickly.

Beta Limitations
Because the feature is still in beta, Spotify notes that usage limits may apply. Some users have reported hitting limits after roughly 20–30 prompts (Reddit discussion).
