Xs custom timeline feature will sting for TweetDeck mourners

Custom Timelines
The Elon Musk‑owned platform now lets users build Custom Timelines, which can collate up to 75 feeds on the home tab. In an X post, Nikita Bier, the company’s head of product, explained that the feature is powered by Grok, “the algorithm’s personalization — meaning every timeline is made just for you.” The feature works best for topics you already engage with.
Availability and Pricing
Custom Timelines are currently in early access for X Premium subscribers paying $8 per month (or $84 per year) and are available only on iOS. An Android version has been promised “soon.”
Comparison to TweetDeck
For users who miss TweetDeck, the new feature may feel familiar. TweetDeck, the social‑media dashboard that let users organise their feed across topics and accounts, was rebranded as X Pro in 2023 and moved behind the X Premium (formerly Twitter Blue) subscription.
Potential Impact on the Algorithm
Giving X users the ability to organise their own timeline topics could address concerns about the “For You” feed algorithm pushing content toward the far right, though it remains to be seen whether the change will have a measurable effect.
