Overview
Microsoft is rolling out support for streaming games at 1440p on Xbox consoles. Game streaming is a key benefit of a Game Pass subscription, and as of 2025 it also includes games that players own outside the Game Pass library.
Streaming at 1440p
- The higher‑bitrate streaming option lets subscribers with an Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One X, or Xbox One play their games at a higher resolution, provided the game and the display support it.
- Previously, 1440p streams were available only on select Fire TV, LG TV, Samsung TV, web browsers, and the Xbox PC app.
- For now, 1440p streaming is limited to Game Pass Ultimate subscribers.
Xbox PC App and Ally Handheld Updates
- Xbox PC app: Added “navigation sounds” that play when using the app’s interface with a controller, aiming to make controller input feel more responsive and intuitive.
- ASUS ROG Xbox Ally & Xbox Ally X:
- Simplified formatting of removable storage such as microSD cards.
- Updated drivers to improve compatibility with select games.
Leadership Changes
- Former Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer announced his retirement.
- Asha Sharma, President of Microsoft’s CoreAI division, has been appointed as his replacement.
- Opinions vary on how Sharma’s leadership will impact Xbox, and further changes are expected.
