WordPress adds an AI assistant

Overview

Automattic’s WordPress.com is expanding its AI capabilities by turning the one‑off AI site builder into a persistent AI assistant for editing and media creation.

Features

• Site‑wide design assistance – In the site editor, the assistant can suggest structure and design options.
  Examples: “Give me more font options that feel clean and professional,” or “Change my site colors to be brighter and bolder.”
• Writing help – Prompt the assistant to rewrite copy, e.g., “Rewrite this to sound more confident.”
• Media library integration – Generate new images or edit existing ones directly from the media library.
  Examples: “Update this image to be black and white,” or “Replace this stack of pancakes with waffles.”
• Team chat integration – The AI assistant is now available in WordPress.com’s team chat, Block Notes, where it can be summoned within chat threads.

Availability

• The assistant is available on WordPress.com’s Business and Commerce plans.
• If you created your site using the AI builder, the assistant is enabled by default on any plan.
• It works best with block themes and has limited functionality with classic themes.
• Activate the AI assistant via Site Settings → AI tools.
