Redesigned Stack Overflow (Beta)
We released the beta version of the redesigned Stack Overflow, updating its look and feel, how people engage on the site, and how content is created and shared. Our goal is to build a space for every technical conversation, centered on real human‑to‑human connection and powered by AI when it helps most. Learn more about the redesign through this blog post.

No matter if you’ve been on Stack Overflow for over a decade or are brand new, we’d love for you to check out the beta, explore the new experience, and tell us what you think.
Opinion‑Based Questions Experiment
On February 19, 2026 we expanded the opinion‑based questions experiment to all users. Now questions and answers can include experience‑based recommendations, insights, and peer perspectives.
This experiment aims to better support how technologists actually work—real‑world solutions often require more nuanced information than a single answer. By welcoming more content types, we’re making it easier to ask questions without worrying about the “perfect” formatting and helping technologists find the answers they need faster.
Stay tuned as this experiment continues to develop. Expect UI and guideline changes in the coming weeks.

AI Assist Updates (Redesign Beta)
With the redesign beta, you can try out AI Assist in the new look and feel. Although you can toggle between the classic and beta site, most recent AI Assist changes have only been implemented on the redesigned experience. Notable updates:
- Faster, more accurate responses thanks to an agentic RAG infrastructure.
- Source cards moved to the bottom of responses to prioritize the answer.
- Ability to pin, rename, and delete chats.
- More compact, scannable source‑card UI.
- Improved feedback flow with clearer response handling.
- “More from the community” links now display Stack Exchange site logos.
Try the updates on beta.stackoverflow.com and share feedback or report bugs.
New Custom Badges for Challenges
In February we announced custom badges as part of the last Community Asks Sprint and rolled out four new badges for Challenges on Stack Overflow:
- Challenge Coder – bronze (won 1 challenge)
- Challenge Hacker – silver (won 10 challenges)
- Challenge Virtuoso – gold (won 20 challenges)
- Challenge Creator – silver (authored a challenge; can be awarded multiple times)
Entries submitted during an open challenge period and selected as winning (or “passed” for pass/fail challenges) are eligible for the Coder, Hacker, or Virtuoso badges. All users who author challenges—whether invited by staff or selected from the Challenges Sandbox—receive the Creator badge.
Keep submitting creative, thought‑provoking challenge ideas, and don’t forget to participate in the latest challenge.
Populist Badge Highlight
The Populist badge is awarded when a user’s answer becomes the highest‑scoring answer on a question and outscores an accepted answer (with a score > 10) by more than double. It can be awarded multiple times and recognizes contributors who keep the knowledge base up‑to‑date, often providing alternate or newer solutions.
We celebrate the 21 community members who earned this badge in February and thank them for their thoroughness and dedication.
