Unfortunately, I have to close my daily.dev account because of my own mistake

My Experience with Daily.dev and the Account Restriction
I have been using Daily.dev for about a year, working hard to build my community and profile. Then, one day, my account was suddenly restricted. The reason? Daily.dev’s policies.
1. Community Picks
When there was a Community Pick feature, I used it to share my work. Most of the time my posts were picked and published.
As my articles started performing well for the community and reaching more people, I received a comment from the CTO stating that personal promotions are not allowed in Community Picks. I tried to explain that I wasn’t promoting anything—just sharing knowledge—but the decision stood: personal posts were no longer an option for Community Picks. This was before public squads existed.
2. Publishing in Squads
Most of my early squad posts were rejected. After a platform update, I could finally create my own squad, so I did and began sharing my articles there. Over time, my posts performed “like magic,” with some reaching over 1 million impressions.

3. Joining the Medium Partner Program
I decided to join the Medium Partner Program to earn some side income, so I added member‑only tags to my articles and also provided a free link for non‑members.
As my Daily.dev articles performed even better, some users complained that they couldn’t read my pay‑walled content. They began spamming and reporting my articles.

The founders’ official posts were even targeted, with users demanding that pay‑walled articles be banned. Eventually, I received a comment on one of my posts:
“Please don’t share paywall articles; it’s against the policies.”
4. My Attempt to Explain
I responded in the comments:
I always share the best of my knowledge and provide free links to my pay‑wall articles for non‑members.
Everyone on Daily.dev shares their work to get visibility, traffic, and conversions. Some share products, some share journeys, some share knowledge—promoting in some form is inevitable. I just wanted to clarify my intent and continue sharing my work.
I never got a reply, so I kept sharing pay‑wall content with free links. Ignoring the warning was my mistake.
5. The Ban Becomes Visible
After a while, my articles stopped receiving visibility. When I opened my squad link in incognito mode, none of my posts were visible to the public.
I submitted a request to lift the ban. Below is the CTO’s reply:

Hi Muhammad,
While I understand your frustration, I personally warned you a couple of times that publishing paywall content is against our content guidelines.
You decided to ignore this warning and kept publishing this content.
Best,
Ido
6. My Appeal
I replied with the following message (screenshot below):

Thank you for your response. I understand the policies, and I have always tried to share quality content.
I’ve noticed that everyone promotes their content to gain reach, visibility, and conversions. That means all Daily.dev users are promoting something in some way.
I would highly appreciate it if you could lift my ban because I always share free links in my stories for non‑members. I understand it’s your platform and your rules, but I just wanted to share that I’ve made meaningful contributions and would like to continue.
I just wanted to earn some side income—there’s nothing wrong with that. I hope you understand my frustration after all the work I’ve done.
Thank you for your time.
Best,
Usman
No reply was received, and my profile remained banned. I sent multiple follow‑up emails, but there was still no response.
7. Final Thoughts
At the end of the day, it’s their platform, their property, and their product. They are free to enforce policies however they see fit. I did my part, and unfortunately it’s sad to say goodbye to the Daily.dev community and delete my profile.
I know I was wrong to go against the policies, and I even sent another email (screenshot below):

This post is a cleaned‑up version of my original story, preserving the structure and content while improving readability.

# Request to Lift Ban from My Daily.dev Account
Hi, this is **Usman**. As you know, I was banned for sharing pay‑walled articles in the Daily.dev feed. I humbly request that you lift my ban. I assure you that I will never share any pay‑walled articles again. I’ve worked hard to build my profile on Daily.dev and really appreciate the work you’re doing.
I just want to continue my journey in content creation and share what I know to the best of my abilities. Daily.dev is one of the few platforms I genuinely like, and I hope you’ll consider my request. Whatever your decision, I would appreciate a response.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
**Best regards,**
Muhammad Usman
