Remake Confirmation
Ubisoft has officially confirmed that it’s working on a remake of Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. The remake has been rumored for years; the 2013 original is one of the most beloved entries in the franchise.
Details
The official title is Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, and that’s about all we know for sure. Ubisoft released some concept art showing protagonist Edward Kenway hanging out on a boat.
Reports suggest this will be a substantial remake, with visual and gameplay upgrades comparable to last year’s Assassin’s Creed Shadows. It is also rumored that the modern‑day gameplay sections will be removed, focusing entirely on pirate‑themed action.
Release Timeline
Ubisoft has not announced a specific release date. The company recently said that a previously unannounced game would be released by the end of the coming financial year, which ends on March 31, 2027. At that time, Black Flag Resynced had not yet been officially announced. It is possible the game could arrive sooner if development has been ongoing for years.
Franchise Roadmap
The announcement was part of a broader franchise roadmap that also mentioned the next mainline Assassin’s Creed entry, being developed under the codename Hexe. Ubisoft promises a “unique, darker, narrative‑driven Assassin’s Creed experience set during a pivotal moment in history.”
The creative director for that project, Clint Hocking, recently left Ubisoft after a 20‑year tenure. He has been replaced by Jean Guedson, who served as creative director for the original Black Flag 13 years ago.
