Threads’ new ‘Dear Algo’ AI feature lets you personalize your feed
Source: TechCrunch
How “Dear Algo” works
- Create a public Threads post that starts with Dear Algo and specify the content you’d like to see more or less of.
Example: “Dear Algo, show me more posts about podcasts.” - The request is applied to your feed for three days.
Because the request is posted publicly, anyone can see it and even repost it to apply the same preference to their own feed. Meta frames this as a way to surface new conversations and turn personalization into a community experience.

Privacy considerations
- Requests are visible to all users, which may be undesirable for those who prefer private adjustments.
- The public nature of the request also enables others to copy the preference for themselves.
Availability
- Currently rolled out in the U.S., New Zealand, Australia, and the U.K.
- Meta plans to expand the feature to additional countries.
Competitive context
- While X and Bluesky offer a simple “Not Interested” button, “Dear Algo” lets users temporarily influence their feed more directly.
- The feature could make Threads feel more real‑time, a hallmark of X.
The launch follows a market‑intelligence report from Similarweb indicating that Threads now surpasses X in daily mobile usage. As of January 7 2026, Threads reported 141.5 million daily active mobile users, compared with X’s 125 million.
