TL;DR

  • Huawei unveiled a new diabetes risk assessment feature at the World Health Expo 2026 in Dubai.
  • The system analyzes physiological markers over three to 14 days using PPG (photoplethysmography) and other onboard sensors.
  • The feature is rolling out to the Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro via OTA update, with more models set to follow.

A new health‑focused feature from Huawei

Huawei is doubling down on health tech with a wrist‑based diabetes risk assessment. At the World Health Expo 2026 in Dubai, the company introduced a feature that can indicate whether you’re at risk of developing diabetes—without a finger‑prick test.

Note: The feature does not measure blood glucose directly, so you won’t see mmol/L or mg/dL readings on the watch.

How it works

The assessment looks at several physiological markers over a period of three to 14 days, using the smartwatch’s photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor and other onboard health sensors. The data is processed to generate a risk indication rather than an exact glucose value.

Availability

  • Huawei Watch GT 6 Pro – already receiving the feature via an OTA update.
  • Additional Huawei smartwatch models are slated to receive the feature in future updates.

Context within the smartwatch industry

Non‑invasive glucose monitoring has long been touted as the “holy grail” of wearable health tech. Apple and Samsung have been researching continuous glucose monitoring solutions, but Huawei is focusing on risk modeling with the data it can already collect.

Previous Huawei wearables have included health‑focused capabilities:

  • Huawei Watch 4 – early non‑invasive metabolic tracking.
  • Watch D series – medical‑grade blood pressure monitoring.

The new diabetes risk assessment builds on these earlier features.

Using the Diabetes Risk app

If you own a compatible Huawei smartwatch, you can launch the Diabetes Risk app to run the assessment. The app evaluates trends in your physiological data and provides a risk indication, encouraging lifestyle adjustments or a medical consultation if needed.

Important disclaimer

This tool is intended as a screening aid only. It highlights possible risk factors and does not replace clinical blood‑glucose tests or professional medical advice. If you need needle‑free continuous glucose monitoring, this feature does not provide that capability.
