This Android gaming console lets you dial things up with a literal knob

TL;DR
- GameMT has built an Android gaming handheld that replaces the right thumbstick with a physical knob.
- The knob can be turned to select one of four performance profiles.
- There’s no indication yet that the knob will serve as an in‑game input.
Overview
The right‑hand controls can make or break a gaming experience, which is why many users prefer a dedicated Android gaming handheld with a full set of physical buttons over touchscreen‑only phones. GameMT’s latest entry, the Pocket Super Knob 5000, takes a unique approach by swapping the traditional right thumbstick for a twistable knob.
Specs
- Display: 5‑inch 1080p screen
- Processor: MediaTek Helio G85 (used in previous low‑end handhelds such as the MagicX One35)
- Thumbstick: Hall‑effect sensor
- Unique Feature: Physical knob in place of the right thumbstick
The Knob
Unlike the Playdate console, which uses a crank as a direct game input, the Super Knob appears to be a hardware control for adjusting power and performance balance rather than a gameplay mechanic.
Performance Modes
GameMT previously introduced a nearly identical model, the EX5, which featured the same knob. In that device, the knob toggled between performance modes, indicated by four LED markers surrounding it. The new Super Knob imagery shows four highlighted power modes that likely correspond to those LEDs.
While this may be less novel than a bespoke game interface, the ability to quickly shift performance profiles could be quite useful for gamers who want to see the immediate impact of those changes.
Availability
The Pocket Super Knob 5000 is expected to go on sale sometime in April. Pricing details have not been released, but given the hardware specifications, it is unlikely to be positioned at a premium price point.
