Overview

It’s been less than three months since we got our first look at Control Resonant, the sequel to Remedy’s mind‑bending, third‑person adventure that introduced us to Jesse Faden and the Federal Bureau of Control. At today’s State of Play event we saw the first extended gameplay footage, and the combat looks as inspired as ever, even though the setting is completely new.

Gameplay and Setting

The next Control game shifts focus from Jesse Faden to her brother Dylan, who Jesse was trying to find for much of the first game. Dylan is out in a warped version of New York City, tracking the Resonant creatures responsible for the calamity that has occurred. Moving the action from the Bureau of Control building to an open‑city environment promises a fresh feel for the series.

Dylan’s Abilities

Dylan’s capabilities differ markedly from Jesse’s. The game places a much bigger emphasis on melee combat, giving Dylan a shapeshifting weapon called the Aberrant. The Aberrant can switch between a hammer, blades, and other forms, similar to how Jesse’s firearm could morph between different gun types in the original.

Physics‑Defying NYC

The most striking aspect of the preview is how the city itself disobeys the laws of physics. Buildings and streets bend upward at 90‑degree angles, and Dylan’s powers let him choose which surface becomes the “ground” for him, creating surreal, sideways navigation.

Release Information

There’s still no firm release date for Control Resonant, but Remedy remains on target to launch in 2026. At the end of today’s PlayStation blog post, they promised that “things are going to get weirder,” exactly what fans were hoping for.
