Introduction

I loved my first set of AirPods Pro, even after I dropped them into a cup of coffee. They’ve continued working for more than a year since then. I recently bought a pair of second‑generation AirPods Pro (and you can still get them for around $210 if you’re interested).

Why I love the second‑gen AirPods Pro

My biggest reason for loving the second‑gen AirPods Pro is how easily they automatically switch between my various devices. I have two Macs and an iPhone in our family room (which doubles as our work hub), and the AirPods can connect to any active device in seconds—great for productivity.

I also love that I can wear them (even without any music playing) to noise‑cancel my little puppy’s constant licking. That repetitive sound can be incredibly distracting when I’m trying to write.

The fit problem

When I first got the AirPods Pro, they fell out of my ears the moment I moved my head even slightly. I had chosen the right‑size silicone tips and even passed Apple’s sound test, yet the earbuds wouldn’t stay in place. Turning my head even a little caused the right pod to drop straight into the trash can next to me.

Memory‑foam ear inserts: the cheap fix

My wife found a solution: a set of memory‑foam AirPod Pro ear inserts. Unlike the stock silicone tips, the foam compresses to the shape of the ear, providing a more secure fit and better sound insulation. The biggest benefit for me is that the AirPods stay put, so I no longer have to fish them out of the trash every time the puppy jumps on me.

You can see the exact product she used here. We also found other memory‑foam tip sets, such as this one for around ten dollars. The set my wife bought had better reviews and proved worth the extra cost. I was able to write the bulk of this article, get up, refill my coffee, and keep working—all without the AirPods falling out.

Life‑changing. It’s glorious. I feel so free!
