Overview

Toyota has unveiled the 2027 Highlander, the first fully electric version of the vehicle and the automaker’s fourth EV in the US. It is also Toyota’s first EV assembled in the country and the first electric model with three rows of seats. While the 2027 Highlander resembles its predecessors, its lines are sharper and it features broader fenders. Flush door handles—similar to those on Tesla models—are used for aerodynamic benefit, though they have been banned in China over safety concerns.

Powertrain & Range

  • All‑wheel‑drive Limited – 95.8 kWh battery, manufacturer‑estimated range of 320 miles.
  • XLE front‑wheel‑drive – 77 kWh battery, manufacturer‑estimated range of 287 miles.
  • XLE all‑wheel‑drive – two battery options:
    • 77 kWh battery, estimated range 270 miles.
    • 95.8 kWh battery, estimated range 320 miles (same as Limited).

All‑wheel‑drive variants deliver a maximum power output of 338 hp, while front‑wheel‑drive models produce 221 hp. Note that manufacturer estimates may differ from EPA ratings; EPA figures provide a more consistent basis for cross‑brand comparisons.

Trim Levels

  • Limited – available with front‑wheel or all‑wheel drive.
  • XLE (Executive Luxury Edition) – offered in front‑wheel and all‑wheel drive configurations, with the battery options listed above.

Interior & Seating

  • Seats seven passengers; the third row folds flat for cargo.
  • Heated front seats are standard.
  • Ventilated and heated second‑row seats are optional for an additional fee.

Availability & Pricing

Toyota plans to begin sales of the 2027 Highlander in late 2026, with some regions receiving the model early in 2027. Pricing details will be announced closer to the release date.
