A tool to watermark and identify content generated through AI
AI‑generated image and video
- SynthID adds an invisible digital watermark to an AI‑generated image or video segment.
- The watermark does not change the image or video quality.
- It’s applied at creation time and is designed to survive modifications such as cropping, adding filters, changing frame rates, or lossy compression.
AI‑generated audio
- SynthID embeds a watermark into any audio generated or published through the Lyria music‑generation model or the podcast generation feature of Notebook LM.
- The watermark is inaudible to the human ear and remains intact after common modifications like adding noise, MP3 compression, or changing the track’s speed.
AI‑generated text
- SynthID now watermarks and identifies text generated by the Gemini app and web experience.
- Large language models generate text one word (token) at a time, assigning a probability score to each possible next word.
- SynthID subtly adjusts these probability scores to encode a watermark, which is not noticeable to readers and does not affect the quality of the output.
