A tool to watermark and identify content generated through AI

AI‑generated image and video

• SynthID adds an invisible digital watermark to an AI‑generated image or video segment.
• The watermark does not change the image or video quality.

AI‑generated audio

• SynthID embeds a watermark into any audio generated or published through the Lyria music‑generation model or the podcast generation feature of Notebook LM.
• The watermark is inaudible to the human ear and remains intact after common modifications like adding noise, MP3 compression, or changing the track’s speed.

AI‑generated text

• SynthID now watermarks and identifies text generated by the Gemini app and web experience.
• Large language models generate text one word (token) at a time, assigning a probability score to each possible next word.
• SynthID subtly adjusts these probability scores to encode a watermark, which is not noticeable to readers and does not affect the quality of the output.
