Survey Overview
Although both phones run Android, there are stark differences in hardware, design philosophy, software experience, and unique value‑adds. A Samsung phone couldn’t be more different from a Google Pixel.
While it’s unlikely you’re jumping from a device several generations old to another, we were interested in how many readers made the jump from Pixel to Samsung—or vice‑versa—and the resulting experience.
We ran a survey, and the results are interesting to say the least:
- Over 1,900 votes were tallied.
- About 55.9 % of respondents switched from Google’s first‑party hardware to a Samsung Galaxy phone (just over 1,000 votes). Of those, 28.3 % are unhappy with the switch.
- 44.1 % switched from Samsung to Pixel. Fewer of these users regret the move, with just under 21 % missing the Samsung experience.
In simpler terms, more people switched from a Google phone to a Samsung one, but a larger portion of that group regrets the move, whereas those jumping from Galaxy devices to Pixels are less likely to be disappointed.
Pixel‑exclusive features still outweigh Samsung’s spec advantage

So why are Pixel users lamenting the switch to Samsung? Commenters often cite unique Pixel‑exclusive features—such as Now Playing and the Pixel Camera—as must‑haves. Many also appreciate Google’s clean UI and UX, while Samsung’s maximalist One UI can feel dizzying to long‑time Pixel fans.
Notable user comments
- harrybeb112: Mentions fading battery life and processing performance as reasons for switching from the Pixel 7 to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The newer Samsung model may present an unfair comparison.
- marcushudak: “Got a Pixel 10 Pro to use alongside and potentially replace my Fold 7… Holy moly, the Pixel 10 Pro performance is terrible. Simple stuff like scrolling Amazon is jittery! The fingerprint reader is slower and finicky. I ended up returning it completely disappointed!”
- doug: Declares they’re “never going back” to Google phones after trying the latest Samsung flagship: “I’ve just got my first Samsung, S26 Ultra, and I’m never going back to Pixel. I tried Pixel after years of Moto Gs and while some things were better, it wasn’t proportionally better for the price difference.”
- tpmaxwell2: Notes that not all users travel exclusively between these two brands, mentioning a switch back to an 8‑year‑old Huawei Mate 20X after a Pixel 7 Pro was stolen.
Takeaway
The survey shows that those switching from Samsung to Pixel have fewer complaints than those moving in the opposite direction. Whether Samsung can remedy the concerns is uncertain; both companies sit at the top of the Android ecosystem but offer vastly different solutions. The simple Pixel approach appeals to some users, while Samsung’s comprehensive offerings attract others. Ultimately, the best choice depends on the type of user you are and what you value in a device.
