Starting a not tech hobby in a Dev world scenario

Context
I’ve been trying to stay busy while I have time to think about the things I can’t think about when I’m working. It’s the beginning of 2026, and I’ve realized I haven’t written anything in about eight years. Everyone needs a hobby that develops talents beyond coding—writing, in this case, can be that hobby.
Why Writing as a Hobby Helps Developers
- Frees up your mind and gives you mental space.
- Improves your reading habits beyond social media.
- Lets you express thoughts you might not say out loud.
- Boosts confidence when you’re right and softens the sting of being wrong.
- Develops and sharpens your writing skills, both by writing and by reading others.
- Shows you that you can write.
- Exposes you to stories and mindsets of people similar to you.
- Provides a way to join and contribute to a community.
- Helps you get involved in a dev‑focused environment.
- Expands your knowledge base.
- Lets you test ideas, see if they make sense, and improve them over time.
- Encourages you to invest time in writing well, which deepens understanding.
- Gives you a chance to create something valuable for yourself and for readers.
- Allows you to reflect on others’ experiences and learn from them.
- Helps you organize your thoughts before, during, and after writing.
- Enables you to be authentic and find your own voice.
- Reveals your personal writing style or “mode.”
- Shows that consistent practice leads to improvement.
- Simply put: you can just do it.
Hopefully this helps me evolve, and maybe it helps you find a hobby that enriches both your personal and professional life.
See you soon.
