AI‑generated content surge
Spotify and other streaming music services are now being inundated with AI‑generated content, accounting for roughly 44 percent of daily uploads, according to Deezer.
“Verified by Spotify” badge
Spotify is introducing a “Verified by Spotify” badge that will be granted only to human artists in good standing with the platform.
- Ineligible: AI‑generated or AI‑persona profiles.
- Requirements: Consistent listener engagement, adherence to platform policies, and “signals of a real artist represented in the profile.”
- Launch scope: More than 99 percent of artists actively sought out by users will receive the badge at launch, with additional artists added on a rolling basis.
The light‑green checkmarks will appear on artist profiles and next to artist names in search “over the coming weeks.” Spotify notes that the absence of a badge today does not guarantee the artist will never receive one.
Related anti‑AI tools
Spotify builds on existing features designed to detect fraudulent or AI‑generated tracks:
- Artist Profile Protection – detailed here.
- SongDNA – explained here.
- About the Song – see the feature here.
Deezer, by contrast, uses a patent‑pending AI music detection tool to remove up to 99 percent of AI‑generated tracks before they reach the platform.
New artist “nutrition facts” section
In beta, Spotify is adding a context section to all artist profiles, regardless of verification status. Modeled after “nutrition facts,” it provides a snapshot of an artist’s career milestones, release activity, and touring information. This will appear in the About section on mobile in the coming weeks.
