TL;DR

  • Spotify has introduced a refreshed layout specifically for Android tablets and iPads, moving away from simply scaling up its mobile app.
  • The update includes adaptive orientation for portrait/landscape modes and a new collapsible sidebar for parallel browsing.
  • The rollout is currently live, featuring easier access to video toggles while maintaining a familiar feel for long‑time users.

Overview

On Android tablets and iPads, Spotify previously used a scaled‑up version of its mobile interface. While functional, it didn’t make the most of the larger screen real estate. The refreshed tablet layout is designed to better utilize the extra space.

Adaptive Orientation

The app now reconfigures its interface when you switch between portrait and landscape modes, rather than merely resizing elements.

Collapsible Sidebar

A new collapsible sidebar lets you browse music while something is actively playing in parallel. You can expand the sidebar to focus on browsing or collapse it to keep the focus on the currently playing content. The sidebar also includes interactive, scrollable content that you can explore without leaving what’s playing.

Video Toggle

Spotify has moved the “Switch to Video” toggle to a more prominent position, making it easier to watch video content alongside your music.

Availability

The new interface is already available across Android tablets and iPads. Give it a try and share your thoughts in the comments!
