Expansion Overview
Spotify’s OpenAI‑powered DJ feature has been available for over three years, and Premium subscribers in additional territories can now try it out. According to Spotify’s newsroom, the experience is rolling out in Austria, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, South Korea, Switzerland, and other nations, bringing the total number of markets where it’s available to more than 75. (It had reached 50 countries by August 2023.)
New Language Options
Four new language options are being added for the DJ:
- French
- German
- Italian
- Brazilian Portuguese
Each language uses a distinct voice.
“Bonjour! Hallo! Ciao! Olá! The Spotify DJ experience you know and love is now available in 4 new languages, and to even more countries worldwide.” – Spotify News, May 7 2026
How the DJ Works
The DJ analyzes your listening history to generate a selection that includes:
- Recent tracks you’ve been playing
- Old favorites
- New releases you might like
You can also ask the DJ to spin up a faux radio station based on a specific artist, genre, mood, or activity. While the underlying playlist generation could be handled by Spotify’s existing algorithms, the generative AI component shines through the DJ’s voice, which provides contextual commentary about the music you’re hearing.
