Personal Podcast Generation

Spotify is expanding beyond simply hosting podcasts created by others. The company introduced a personal podcast feature that uses AI to generate audio content for users based on an idea or a custom prompt.

  • Earlier this month, Spotify released a GitHub‑based command‑line tool for Claude Code and Codex that lets users create a podcast and save it to their own Spotify library. The tool is described in detail here.
  • Spotify plans to let users create podcasts directly within the Spotify app and schedule them to produce daily or weekly briefs on topics of recurring interest, as well as one‑off episodes for quick topic overviews.
  • Example prompts include:
    • “Share my daily city updates, and tell me about local concerts from artists I love.”
    • “Help me understand economics in five minutes.”
  • Users can attach links, PDFs, and text, and select a custom voice for the generated audio. The approach draws inspiration from tools such as NotebookLM, ElevenLabs Reader, and the former NotebookLM developers’ app Huxe.

Spotify also launched a dedicated desktop application called Studio by Spotify Labs, which can connect with users’ email and calendar to produce personalized briefings.

AI‑Powered Q&A and Briefings

Spotify is rolling out an AI‑powered Q&A feature for Premium mobile users in the United States, Sweden, and Ireland.

  • While listening to an episode, users can ask questions about the content or any concept mentioned in the podcast and receive AI‑generated answers.
  • The feature also supports requests for podcast recommendations on specific topics.
  • This follows the earlier release of a prompt‑based playlist creation feature for podcasts (see the April announcement here).

The Q&A capability mirrors Google’s recent Ask YouTube product, encouraging deeper engagement with audio content.

Tools for Creators

For podcast creators, Spotify is enhancing monetization and partnership options:

  • The creator sponsorship tool is now available for managing brand partnerships.
  • Creators can charge a subscription fee to unlock exclusive content and experiences, similar to offerings on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and Snap (see Snap’s creator subscription launch here).
