SpaceX’s Terafab AI Chip Plant Investment

Elon Musk’s plans to enter the AI chip manufacturing business are set to be costly. According to reports from The New York Times and CNBC, SpaceX intends to invest at least $55 billion in its “Terafab” chip plant in Austin, Texas. This figure comes from a public‑hearing notice filed in Grimes County, Texas, where the company is seeking tax breaks for the project.

The company notes that if additional phases are built, the total investment could eventually rise to $119 billion. When Musk first announced the project in March, he outlined ambitious goals for the facility to produce enough chips to support up to 200 gigawatts per year of computing capacity.
