Shatner Announces All‑Star Metal Album

You might know William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk, the cavalier commander of the Starship Enterprise from Star Trek, but he’s also a true heavy‑metal warrior. He has just announced an all‑star metal album to prove it.

“Metal has always been a place where imagination gets loud,” Shatner says. “This album is a gathering of forces – each artist bringing their fire, their precision, their chaos. I chose them because they have something to say, and because metal demands honesty.”

The project is billed as anything but a novelty album. Shatner promises “massive guitars, cinematic arrangements”, “sharp turns, dark humor, raw emotion, and moments of unexpected beauty”.

Collaborators

The album will feature 35 metal icons hand‑picked by Shatner, drawn from the ranks of The Metal Archives. He also hints at covers of classics by Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden, alongside original material.

Shatner’s history of cross‑genre collaborations includes:

  • 2004’s Has Been with Henry Rollins, Adrian Belew, Brad Paisley, Aimee Mann, and a version of Pulp’s “Common People”.
  • 2021’s Bill featuring Brad Paisley again, plus Joe Walsh and Robert Randolph.

Music Video

A music video for Shatner’s rendition of “Common People” has been released.
