Shark's ChillPill puts a mister, fan and cold-plate in one portable package

Overview
Shark’s newest device, the ChillPill, is marketed as a “3‑in‑1 personal cooling system.” It combines a fan, a mister, and a cold‑plate in a single portable accessory and is priced at $150 (available March 10). After testing the unit for several days, I find it sophisticated and versatile, though a bit pricey.
Design and Build
The ChillPill resembles a modern pair of binoculars, consisting of two tubes connected by an inch‑long silver rotating hinge. One half can swivel up to 180° in either direction and clicks firmly into place, providing a stable position.
- Control tube – The smaller tube houses the USB‑C charging port, a lock switch to prevent accidental activation, a dial for intensity levels, and a screen that displays battery level and mode.
- Attachment tube – The larger matte tube holds the interchangeable “caps” (attachments) and serves as the air inlet.
Swapping caps is straightforward: align the symbols on the edge, twist until the circle or lock icons sit over the solid white dot, and the attachment locks into place.

Attachments
Shark refers to the three interchangeable caps as:
- High‑speed fan cap – An inch‑thick disc that delivers powerful airflow.
- Dry Touch Mist cap – Contains a water tank with a wick; fill with potable water (no oils, fragrances, or additives). The mist feels dry and evaporates quickly.
- InstaChill cooling plate – A super‑cold surface similar to the technology used in the Shark CryoGlow LED face mask and the Shark DePuffi. It can be pressed to skin or any surface that needs rapid cooling.
Mist Cap Experience
The mist feels genuinely dry. When filled with cold tap water, the resulting cool air and fine mist are refreshing. The mist lightly dampens the skin but dries quickly. Holding the device farther from the face eliminates any moisture on the skin, making it suitable for neck or back cooling as well.
Cooling Plate Experience
The InstaChill plate provides a noticeably cold surface. Setting it to the lower chill setting and rubbing it across the face before a work call helped reduce tension, even if it didn’t fully relax me.
Fan Cap Experience
The fan reaches a top speed of 10, delivering a strong “mini cyclone” of airflow. It works well when simply moving air without cooling.
Performance and Usability
- Battery life – The on‑screen indicator shows remaining charge; the device lasts several hours depending on the attachment and intensity.
- Controls – The lock switch prevents accidental activation, which is useful when the ChillPill is stored in a bag or purse.
- Ergonomics – The power‑button side can become slick or greasy with use, making it occasionally slippery.
Missing Accessories
The ChillPill would benefit from optional accessories such as a wrist strap, clamp, belt clip, crossbody strap, or travel case. Keeping the caps attached to the device would also improve portability.
Conclusion
The Shark ChillPill delivers a versatile cooling solution in a compact, modular package. While the price point is high, the combination of fan, mist, and cold‑plate functions makes it a compelling gadget for hot, humid climates (e.g., Singapore). It’s a solid gift idea, though buying multiple units may be limited by budget.
