Introduction

uMux is a brand‑new, free and open‑source package for Umbraco 17+ that removes the hassle of hosting videos on your website. Drop your videos into Umbraco and uMux will automatically upload and sync them with Mux, giving you all the power of Mux’s streaming, thumbnails, and analytics while you stay inside the CMS you love.

For years I recommended platforms like Vimeo because they’re user‑friendly and handle video streaming well. However, editors had to jump between systems, upload videos to Vimeo, then copy‑paste IDs or embed codes back into Umbraco—clunky, error‑prone, and far from a smooth experience.

With uMux, everything stays in one place. Editors can upload and manage videos right inside Umbraco, while still getting all the benefits of a modern video platform like Mux. No more juggling logins, no more copy‑pasting codes—just a seamless workflow.

uMux handles all the behind‑the‑scenes magic: your videos are sent to Mux, which takes care of encoding so they’re ready to stream anywhere. Editors don’t need to worry about file types, encoding settings, or other technical video details—it just works.

Serving large video files from your own server can be painful, especially on Umbraco Cloud or with bandwidth limits. Letting Mux handle your videos is a game‑changer.

Benefits of Using Mux

  • Save your bandwidth – offload video delivery to Mux’s CDN.
  • Smooth streaming for everyone – adaptive bitrate ensures playback on any connection.
  • Global delivery – Mux’s edge network serves viewers worldwide.

Additional handy features:

  • Instant thumbnails & GIFs
  • Powerful analytics
  • Security & scalability
  • Works everywhere (mobile, desktop, TV)
  • Automatic encoding to all major formats

Getting Started
