Upcoming S Pen Improvements
The S Pen has been a core feature of Galaxy Ultra phones for over a decade. In an interview following the launch of the Galaxy S26 series, Samsung COO Won‑Joon Choi said the company is working on a “more advanced technology within S‑Pen” that will reduce the penalty of having the stylus attached to the device.
“We’re working on a more advanced technology within S‑Pen to come up with a new structure of display, so the penalty of having S‑Pen is diminished. S‑Pen will continue to be one of the core technologies.” – Won‑Joon Choi, Samsung COO
As reported by Bloomberg, Samsung plans to replace the existing digitizer with a new solution. The exact changes are still unclear, but potential benefits include:
- Qi2 compatibility – current S Pen magnets can interfere with Qi2 charging.
- Reduced thickness – the S Pen was removed from the Galaxy Z Fold 7 because of hardware bulk; a slimmer design could bring stylus support back to foldables and enable thinner Ultra models.
Future Form Factors
Choi also addressed Samsung’s experimental devices. The company has no timeline for sequels to the Galaxy Z TriFold or the Galaxy S25 Edge. While the TriFold has largely been an internal experiment, the S25 Edge failed to meet expectations, and Samsung is not committing to immediate follow‑ups.
