Samsung is adding Perplexity to Galaxy AI
Source: The Verge
Overview
Samsung is expanding its Galaxy AI ecosystem by adding Perplexity as a selectable assistant. Users of the upcoming Galaxy S26 will be able to invoke Perplexity with the voice command “hey, Plex.” This move is part of Samsung’s broader strategy to support a multi‑agent ecosystem, allowing users to choose the AI that best fits each task.
Perplexity Integration
- Activation – Say “hey, Plex” to launch Perplexity, alongside existing options such as Bixby and Gemini.
- System Access – Perplexity will be granted permission to interact with native Samsung apps, including Notes, Clock, Gallery, Reminder, and Calendar, as well as select third‑party applications (specific apps have not been disclosed).
- Purpose – By offering multiple agents, Samsung aims to let users leverage the strengths of different AIs for different use cases rather than relying on a single, monolithic assistant.
Implications
Samsung believes that users will increasingly rely on AI to control their phones. Providing the flexibility to switch between agents could help differentiate Samsung’s devices from competitors like Apple and Google, especially as users form strong attachments to particular AI personalities.
Upcoming Announcement
More details about Galaxy AI and Samsung’s multi‑agent vision are expected at the Samsung Unpacked event scheduled for February 25, 2026.
