Samsung introduces Finder search in One UI 8.5

The Galaxy S26 trio is finally here, bringing One UI 8.5 to Samsung’s latest flagships. While a major Android overhaul may still be slated for the summer, the mid‑cycle release already adds new visual elements—most notably a search function that feels lifted straight from Apple’s iOS.
Integrated search on the home screen
During his hands‑on with the Galaxy S26 Ultra, 9to5Google’s Ben Schoon discovered that the page indicators on Samsung’s home screen now support a search shortcut. The feature pulls information from on‑device data (calendar appointments, photos, notes, files, etc.) and the web, and it’s tied into Galaxy AI for faster results. Using this space as an always‑available search entry point is clever, but it isn’t a wholly original idea.

Direct inspiration from iOS Spotlight
The shortcut mirrors Apple’s Spotlight search, which offers a nearly identical experience—searching both local content and the web—in the exact same manner. The primary distinction lies in the naming: Samsung calls its implementation Finder, dropping the “S” branding that Apple uses for its search bar.

Naming controversy
While the upgrade is welcome for Samsung users, the choice of the name “Finder” feels pointed, especially after the recent launch of the Galaxy S25 Edge. Apple’s Finder has existed since the first Macintosh over 40 years ago, making this one of the most blatant Apple inspirations from Samsung in recent memory.
Availability and pre‑order links
The Samsung Galaxy S26 series is now available for pre‑order at Samsung.com, with incentives of up to $900 in trade‑in value or $150 in store credit for additional devices if you forego a trade‑in.
