South Korean police have arrested a 40‑year‑old man for sharing an AI‑generated image that misled authorities searching for a wolf that escaped from a zoo in Daejeon city. The suspect is accused of disrupting the search by creating and distributing a fake photo purporting to show Neukgu, the wolf, trotting down a road intersection.
Police identified the suspect after reviewing security‑camera footage and records of his AI program usage. Authorities have not clarified whether he sent the photo directly to officials or simply posted it online. When questioned, the man said he had done it “for fun.”
He is being investigated for “disrupting government work by deception,” an offence that carries up to five years in prison or a fine of up to 10 million Korean won (≈ $6,700 / £5,000).
