Overview
Robinhood is expanding into AI‑agent‑driven investing, announcing support for AI‑agentic trading and a new agentic virtual credit card. The company now lets users create a dedicated account for their AI agents, linking it to a separate wallet. Agents can:
- Read and analyze a user’s portfolio
- Generate trading strategies
- Place orders using only the pre‑loaded balance in that wallet
All trades generate notifications, and users can monitor activity directly within the Robinhood app. For certain trades, a preview is shown and may require user approval before execution. Robinhood also adds fraud‑detection protection, with a team reviewing suspicious trades and helping resolve disputes.
Agentic Trading Feature
- Beta launch – currently supports only stock trading.
- Future expansion – plans to add options, crypto, event contracts, futures, and prediction markets.
- Model Context Protocol (MCP) – agents can connect to MCP to:
- Analyze concentration risk and sector exposure
- Execute trades
- Scan analyst notes for new investment opportunities
User Controls
- Real‑time notifications of every trade made by the AI agent
- In‑app monitoring and activity logs
- Optional trade preview requiring user approval
- Monthly spending limits and fraud‑detection oversight
Virtual Credit Card for AI Agents
Robinhood introduces a virtual credit card that AI agents can use for payments.
- Availability – initially limited to Robinhood Gold Card holders; a similar feature will roll out to Robinhood Platinum Card users later in the year.
- Controls – users can set monthly limits and decide whether the agent must seek approval for each payment.
Robinhood’s AI History
- 2024 – Acquired AI‑powered research platform Pluto.
- 2023 – Launched an AI assistant that offers investment advice.
“We’ve heard a lot of demand from our customers to bring their own tools, LLMs, and agents, and connect them to Robinhood. That is why we are launching our new products,” said Abhishek Fatehpuria, VP of Product at Robinhood.
Industry Landscape
Other major players are also enabling AI agents to transact on users’ behalf:
- Stripe – Giving agents the ability to pay
- Amazon – Agents that transact, built with Coinbase and Stripe
- Google – Universal Cart for cross‑site shopping journeys
- Startups – e.g., Prava Pay, offering similar capabilities
