New Apple Watch App for Rivian Vehicles

Rivian has introduced an Apple Watch app for R1S and R1T drivers, bringing a range of vehicle controls to the wrist.

Core Features

• One‑tap controls – Choose up to four shortcuts for locking/unlocking doors, opening/closing windows, accessing the front or rear trunks, sounding the alarm, and more.
• Digital Crown integration – Rotate the watch’s Digital Crown to adjust cabin temperature and set the battery‑charging target.
• Complication – Add a watch‑face complication that displays the vehicle’s charge level at a glance.

Apple Wallet Car Key Support

Rivian’s second‑generation R1S and R1T models support Apple Wallet car keys via Ultra Wideband (UWB) technology. With an iPhone in your pocket or an Apple Watch on your wrist, you can simply approach the vehicle, open the door, and start it.

• Passive entry requirements – iPhone 11 or newer (excluding iPhone SE and iPhone 16e models) or Apple Watch Series 6 or newer.

First‑Generation Models

For first‑generation R1S and R1T vehicles, digital‑key functionality is limited to locking or unlocking the vehicle with a tap of the “lock” button in the app. Rivian notes, “With the app open, you’re ready to drive.”

Availability

TechCrunch reports that the Apple Watch app will be released next week. Keep an eye on the App Store for an update to the Rivian iPhone app; installing the new version will automatically extend functionality to the Apple Watch.
