Qik Seek: My Modern, Fast, and Interactive Search Engine
Source: Dev.to
Overview
I recently built Qik Seek, a modern search engine designed to be fast, visually appealing, and easy to use. The goal was to create a clean interface with interactive features that make searching the web and images enjoyable.
Theme System
- Users can toggle between dark and light modes seamlessly.
- In light mode, the background features a beautiful image of the Earth.
- Dark mode provides a sleek, minimal vibe.
Custom Cursor
A custom cursor with trailing effects adds a subtle, dynamic feel when navigating the page. Small touches like this enhance the user experience without being overwhelming.
Search Functionality
- The search bar uses Google Custom Search Engine (CSE).
- It adapts to the selected theme, ensuring consistent visuals in both dark and light modes.
- Users can directly open URLs by typing them into the search box.
Deployment & SEO
- Hosted on Netlify, which offers fast, easy deployment for static sites.
- Added proper SEO metadata, schema.org markup, and OpenGraph tags to improve indexing and shareability.
Conclusion
Building Qik Seek taught me a lot about front‑end development, dynamic theming, and enhancing user experience with small interactive touches. It’s a simple project, but rewarding to see users enjoy it.
