Trailer Release
Prime Video released the official full trailer for its upcoming live‑action series, Spider‑Noir, at CCXPMX26 in Mexico City over the weekend. As with the first teaser in February, the trailer was made available in two formats: a black‑and‑white version (very Raymond Chandler‑esque) and a color version, which the showrunners refer to as “True Hue.”
Background
Marvel Comics created its “noir” line in 2009, reinterpreting familiar Marvel characters in an alternate universe, usually set during the Great Depression in the United States. A version of the Spider‑Noir character, voiced by Nicolas Cage, briefly appeared in the animated films Spider‑Man: Into the Spider‑Verse (2018) and Across the Spider‑Verse (2023). He is set to reprise the role in the upcoming Beyond the Spider‑Verse.
Series Details
Co‑showrunner Oren Uziel (with Steve Lightfoot) is a film‑noir fan, making the series a natural fit. The live‑action series is set in 1930s New York, but the spidery superhero is not Peter Parker. Uziel felt the Parker character was too closely tied to a boyish high‑school image, which didn’t suit the noir tone. Consequently, Cage portrays Ben Reilly, a hard‑boiled private investigator with a secret superhero identity, The Spider.
Official premise:
“Spider‑Noir tells the story of Ben Reilly (Nicolas Cage), a seasoned, down‑on‑his‑luck private investigator in 1930s New York, who is forced to grapple with his past life, following a deeply personal tragedy, as the city’s one and only superhero.”
