Overview
Perplexity’s Personal Computer, its answer to OpenClaw and other local AI agents, is now available to all Mac users via its desktop app, the company announced on Thursday.
Personal Computer is an expansion of Perplexity’s general‑purpose, multi‑model digital worker (sometimes called Perplexity Computer). It brings those capabilities to your own device by allowing AI agents access to local files, applications, connectors, and the web, enabling personal, multi‑step workflows.
“It takes Computer out of the cloud‑only world and onto the device where most of your real work already takes place.” – Perplexity

The goal is to capitalize on the growing demand for local AI agents, popularized by OpenClaw. While OpenClaw has raised security concerns due to its elevated permissions, Personal Computer is positioned as a safer AI‑enabled computing environment.
Features
- Works with local files, native Mac apps, and the web.
- Orchestrates tools, files, and over 400 connectors while leveraging personal context.
- Operates within a secure development environment on Perplexity’s servers.
- When paired with Perplexity’s AI‑powered Comet web browser, it can use web‑based tools without direct connectors.

Designed for autonomous agents on always‑on devices (e.g., Mac Mini) and can be accessed remotely from an iPhone to initiate tasks or approve requests.
Potential use cases
- Working with spreadsheets, documents, and multi‑material projects.
- Comparing files from different apps.
- Pulling notes from one app to draft content in another.
Availability
Personal Computer was introduced last month, initially limited to Perplexity Max subscribers and a waitlist. It is now open to any Mac user as part of the new Perplexity Mac app. A Pro or Max subscription is still required to activate Personal Computer.
The older Mac app will be deprecated in the coming weeks so the team can focus on the Personal Computer app.
