Overview

Perplexity has just released Personal Computer, a software suite now available for Mac. Building on the multi‑model orchestration capabilities introduced with Perplexity Computer in February, the new assistant works with your files, apps, connectors, and the web to complete complex and continuous workflows—similar to Claude Cowork and, as of today, OpenAI Codex.

Key Use Cases

  • To‑do list management – Ask Personal Computer to read your to‑do list and even execute the tasks on it.
  • App integration – Open the Notes app on your Mac, request help, and the system will reason about the best way to assist, accessing files and apps such as Apple Messages as needed.
  • Folder organization – The assistant can reorganize messy folders, giving files sensible names and a clear structure, much like Anthropic’s Claude Cowork.

Interaction Modes

  • Voice prompts – Speak to Personal Computer directly on your Mac.
  • Mobile control – Initiate and manage tasks from your phone.

Security and Transparency

  • Files are created in a secure sandbox.
  • All actions are auditable and reversible, ensuring the system feels like a managed team rather than an uncontrolled entity with access to your data.

Availability

Personal Computer for Mac launches today, initially for Max subscribers. Perplexity plans to roll the app out to additional users soon, prioritizing those on the waitlist.
