New Hormonal Health Features
Oura announced two new features aimed at helping women monitor hormonal health with the Series 3 and 4 rings.
Cycle Insights Update
The existing Cycle Insights feature, which tracks menstrual cycles, will now incorporate hormonal birth‑control methods. Oura describes this as a “first‑of‑its‑kind experience” that lets users see how different methods affect biometric data such as temperature patterns, sleep, recovery, bleeding, and potential side effects. The update supports more than 20 birth‑control combinations, including pills, patches, IUDs, and implants.
Partnership with Twentyeight Health
Oura has partnered with virtual‑health platform Twentyeight Health to add a portal inside the Oura app. Users can tap the portal to “seamlessly connect” with a licensed health provider, discuss birth‑control options, and receive new prescriptions. More details are available in the Engadget article about the app integration.
Privacy Concerns
In the post‑Roe v. Wade United States, there are concerns that period‑tracking data could be subpoenaed in legal cases. Articles have highlighted the risk that such data might be used in court (The Verge) and emphasized the importance of keeping this information private (Engadget).
Menopause Insights
A new Menopause Insights feature will track quality of life across 22 possible symptoms. The app includes a questionnaire that generates a personalized, on‑demand explanation of results based on the user’s responses and longitudinal biometric data. Oura says the feature provides actionable results to inform lifestyle changes.
Availability
Both tools will roll out globally starting May 6. They are currently limited to the Oura Ring 3 and Ring 4. The Ring 4 has been praised as one of the best smart rings available (Engadget review).
