OpenAI President Greg Brockman’s Testimony
OpenAI president Greg Brockman testified on the fifth day of Elon Musk’s lawsuit against the AI company. During his testimony, Brockman disclosed that his stake in OpenAI is worth nearly $30 billion, even though he has never personally invested money in the company. This valuation would place him on the Forbes list of the world’s richest people, with wealth comparable to that of Melinda French Gates.
The judge declined to admit a pre‑trial text message in which Musk allegedly warned Brockman that he and Sam Altman would become “the most hated men in America.” According to court filings (the actual text was not provided), Musk sent Brockman a message two days before the trial to gauge interest in a settlement. When Brockman replied that both sides should drop their respective claims, Musk allegedly responded:
“By the end of this week, you and Sam will be the most hated men in America. If you insist, so it will.”
Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers, who is overseeing the trial, did not admit the text exchange as evidence.
Brockman also acknowledged that he had promised to personally donate $100,000 to OpenAI’s charity but never followed through. He placed the responsibility on Sam Altman, stating: “I asked Sam when I should donate this, and he said he would let me know.” (Source: Business Insider)
Other Witnesses
The first witness to testify on Monday was Stuart Russell, an artificial intelligence expert from the University of California, Berkeley. Business Insider noted that Russell’s most memorable testimony involved the compensation he received from Musk’s legal team:
“He received an eye‑popping $5,000 per hour for 40 hours of preparatory work. Expert witnesses in high‑profile cases typically make between $500 to $1,000 per hour.”
