Source: Engadget
Overview
OpenAI has added AI‑generated pets to the Codex app, its agentic tool that assists with coding. These optional animated companions act as a floating overlay that can:
- Show what Codex is working on
- Notify you when Codex completes a task
- Indicate when it needs your input
The feature lets developers monitor Codex’s active thread without leaving the current application.
How to summon a pet
- Type
/petin the Codex app to summon or dismiss a companion. - Choose from eight built‑in pets, or generate your own with the
/hatchcommand (e.g., a cute goblin companion).
