TL;DR

  • Google is rolling out automatic Drive syncing in NotebookLM.
  • When a file is added, altered, or deleted in Drive, the information in NotebookLM updates automatically.
  • The feature is being rolled out to all Workspace customers and users with personal Google accounts.

What is NotebookLM?

NotebookLM helps you study by generating summaries, explanations, and answers from the documents you share with it. While it can save time, it previously required manual updates whenever source documents changed.

Automatic Drive Syncing

In a recent blog post, Google announced that NotebookLM will now automatically sync with Google Drive. Changes to Drive files—such as adding, updating, or deleting a document—are reflected instantly in NotebookLM, eliminating the need for manual re‑syncing.

Google notes that the feature will strictly respect file deletions and permissions. If your access to a Docs, Sheets, or Slides file is revoked, the file can no longer be used as a source, though it will remain listed with a link so you can request access.

Rollout Details

  • Automatic Drive syncing begins rolling out today.
  • The rollout will be gradual, with full visibility expected within about 15 days.
  • The feature is available to all Workspace customers and to users with personal Google accounts.
