Nintendo announces surprise Switch 2 version of sci-fi RPG Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition
Source: Engadget
Overview
Last year’s Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition was significant for a few reasons. It was the final major first‑party Switch game released before the Switch 2’s arrival in June, and the last Wii U title to receive a second life on Nintendo’s more successful console. Nearly a year later, a Switch 2 update for one of the most technically impressive games Nintendo has ever published has finally arrived.
Switch 2 Edition
The updated version, titled Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, now supports up to 60 fps performance and 4K resolution when docked to a TV.
The sprawling alien world of planet Mira, now enhanced on #NintendoSwitch2 with improved frame rates and up to 4K resolution in TV mode!

Pricing and Availability
- The graphical and performance enhancements are not free for existing Switch owners.
- A $5 upgrade pack is available on the eShop.
- The standalone Switch 2 version costs $65.
- A physical edition will ship on April 16.
Gameplay Highlights
- Open‑World Exploration – The game features a seamless, massive open world on the planet Mira, with an emphasis on side quests.
- Mech Flight – Players can eventually pilot a giant mech to fly around the entire planet.
- Combat System – The series’ signature MMO‑like hybrid real‑time combat system may require some adjustment but distinguishes the title from other RPGs.
Series Context
- Xenoblade Chronicles X is a standalone entry, so newcomers can jump in without prior experience in the series.
- Other Xenoblade titles on Switch—Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3—have not yet received Switch 2 updates, though they may arrive in the future.
