New York’s state legislature is set to consider a pair of bills that would:

  • Require labels on AI‑generated content.
  • Impose a three‑year pause on new data‑center construction.

NY FAIR News Act

The New York Fundamental Artificial Intelligence Requirements in News Act (NY FAIR News Act) would:

  • Mandate that any news item substantially composed, authored, or created through the use of generative artificial intelligence carry a disclaimer.
  • Require that AI‑generated content be reviewed and approved by a human with editorial control before publication.
  • Obligate organizations to disclose to newsroom employees the use of AI in the creation process.

Data‑Center Construction Pause

The companion bill would halt the construction of new AI data centers for three years, aiming to address concerns about the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure and its broader impacts.
