My First Blog as a Cybersecurity Beginner: Learning Networking with Wireshark.
Source: Dev.to
Introduction
I’m starting my journey into cybersecurity by learning networking concepts, a foundation many recommend before diving deeper into security.
Learning Networking with Wireshark
To get hands‑on experience, I began using Wireshark, an industry‑standard tool for capturing and analyzing network traffic. It helped me understand:
- How packets move across a network
- Which protocols are responsible for specific actions
- The underlying communication that occurs behind the scenes
What I’ve realized is that networking isn’t about memorizing every protocol; it’s about grasping how devices communicate.
Current Focus
- Understanding common protocols such as HTTP, TCP, DNS, etc.
- Practicing packet analysis with Wireshark
- Strengthening my networking fundamentals before moving further into cybersecurity
Advice for Beginners
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by networking or any new concept, remember that confusion is a natural part of the learning process. You don’t need to master everything on day one—steady, incremental progress is key.
