Introduction

I’m starting my journey into cybersecurity by learning networking concepts, a foundation many recommend before diving deeper into security.

Learning Networking with Wireshark

To get hands‑on experience, I began using Wireshark, an industry‑standard tool for capturing and analyzing network traffic. It helped me understand:

  • How packets move across a network
  • Which protocols are responsible for specific actions
  • The underlying communication that occurs behind the scenes

What I’ve realized is that networking isn’t about memorizing every protocol; it’s about grasping how devices communicate.

Current Focus

  • Understanding common protocols such as HTTP, TCP, DNS, etc.
  • Practicing packet analysis with Wireshark
  • Strengthening my networking fundamentals before moving further into cybersecurity

Advice for Beginners

If you’re feeling overwhelmed by networking or any new concept, remember that confusion is a natural part of the learning process. You don’t need to master everything on day one—steady, incremental progress is key.

For those already working in cybersecurity or networking:

  • Did you start with networking, or did you jump straight into security tools?
  • How did your journey begin?

I’d love to hear about your experiences.

Thanks for reading my first blog post!
