Model picker for Copilot coding agent

Copilot Pro and Pro+ subscribers can now choose a model when using the Copilot coding agent, GitHub’s asynchronous, autonomous background agent.

How to select a model

When you start a task from any of the following entry points, a dropdown appears that lets you pick one of the available models:

• Auto
• Anthropic Claude Opus 4.5
• Anthropic Claude Sonnet 4.5
• OpenAI GPT‑5.1‑Codex‑Max

If you leave the setting on Auto, Copilot optimizes speed and performance by automatically choosing a model based on availability.

Availability

• Now available: Copilot Pro and Pro+ subscribers
• Coming soon: Copilot Business and Enterprise subscribers
• Future integrations: Additional Copilot coding agent integrations such as Visual Studio Code and GitHub Mobile.
