Xbox mode rollout to Windows 11
Microsoft has started rolling out Xbox mode to Windows 11 devices—including laptops, desktop PCs, and tablets—just as it promised in March.
The mode, which debuted on the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X handheld, provides a console‑like full‑screen Xbox experience on Windows. It is a controller‑optimized interface that emphasizes an aggregated library, allowing you to easily browse and launch games from Xbox Game Pass as well as titles installed from various PC storefronts.
The Xbox Game Bar overlay remains available, and you can switch between apps directly from the interface.
Microsoft says it continues to tweak and refine the experience across devices after the initial launch. You can move freely between Xbox mode and the regular Windows 11 environment at any time. The rollout is being done gradually to select users and markets to “ensure a great experience.”
Enabling Xbox mode
To receive Xbox mode as soon as it becomes available in your region:
- Open Settings → Windows Update.
- Turn on “Get the latest updates as soon as they are available.”
Once the update downloads and installs, Xbox mode will appear as an option. Microsoft will keep adjusting the feature based on user feedback as more people gain access.
