Manus, an AI company Meta acquired for $2 billion last year, is running ads that promise quick, easy money with AI. The ads target local businesses that either lack a website or have poorly designed sites, claiming that AI can build a new site for them and then sell the service over the phone.
- As part of the campaign, Manus paid content creators to develop Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok accounts that promote its AI product as an easy, lucrative gig.
- The creators’ TikTok accounts were taken down after The Verge inquired about them.
- Some of the videos appeared as official Manus ads, but posts on the paid creator accounts often obscured their relationship with the company.
