Leadership Changes at Match Group

Match Group announced that it will eliminate the Chief Operating Officer (COO) role, ending Hesam Hosseini’s 18‑year tenure with the dating‑app giant. Hosseini had served as COO since April 1 2025, after being promoted while retaining his previous position as CEO of Evergreen & Emerging Brands. The change follows a broader leadership shakeup that also saw President Gary Swidler depart amid layoffs aimed at saving $100 million annually.

Comments from Spencer Rascoff

In response to Hosseini’s LinkedIn announcement, CEO Spencer Rascoff wrote:

“18 years is an extraordinary run, Hesam. Thank you for your leadership, steady hand and deep belief in this category and company. You helped take online dating from the margins to the mainstream and built teams and brands that will have a lasting impact. I’m personally grateful for your partnership.”

A source familiar with the exit noted that Rascoff and Hosseini had previously discussed whether the COO role was still needed for the company’s next chapter.

Employment Terms

According to Hosseini’s employment agreement, he received a base salary of $635,000 plus a discretionary cash bonus and other benefits. The one‑year contract was set to renew automatically on April 1 2026 unless terminated earlier, indicating that the role’s necessity would be reassessed after a year.

Financial Performance and Outlook

Match Group reported a first‑quarter earnings beat, with revenue of $878 million and earnings per share of 83 cents, surpassing estimates of $871 million and 70 cents. However, the company’s full‑year revenue forecast of $3.41 billion to $3.54 billion fell short of Wall Street’s $3.59 billion expectation. Match Group also announced plans to roll out additional AI products and features for its flagship app, Tinder.

Upcoming Tinder Product Event

Tinder is set to host its first‑ever product event this month, showcasing new features and outlining future roadmaps. The event aims to reassure investors that the company has a strategy to navigate a shifting dating‑app landscape, where many users are moving away from apps toward real‑world experiences.
