RAM Configuration

Apple made some compromises to sell a Mac notebook at $599, including cutting back on RAM. While all other Macs start at 16 GB RAM, the MacBook Neo is equipped with 8 GB RAM and no option to upgrade to more memory. The device uses the A18 Pro chip from the iPhone 16 Pro models, and the 8 GB of RAM is the same amount found in the iPhone 16 Pro.

Performance Implications

With the A18 Pro chip and 8 GB RAM, the MacBook Neo can run all Apple Intelligence features. However, as AI becomes more advanced and Apple adds new capabilities, there’s a chance the machine could fall behind. Despite the limited memory, the MacBook Neo remains a powerful machine for everyday tasks such as writing, web browsing, and schoolwork, and it is more than capable of light photo and video editing.

Comparison with Other Macs

The MacBook Air previously offered an 8 GB option, but in October 2024 Apple updated it to include 16 GB RAM as the entry‑level configuration. Since that update, no Mac has shipped with less than 16 GB RAM. The MacBook Neo therefore stands out as the only current Mac model with an 8 GB RAM configuration and no upgrade path.
